The client, Nanty Glo Fire Department, requested an illustration of their entire fleet in front of the department building using various photo references for a convention. The design uses seven spot colors, but the garment color is utilized as well as spot color halftones interacting with other colors to extend the palette's range.

The design uses three spot colors with the garment color being utilized as a fourth.

TYPOGRAPHY POSTER: BAUHAUS

A typography poster created in Photoshop where the focus features a quote from designer Paul Klee of Bauhaus fame. The overall poster design reflects traits of Bauhaus poster design. The design was then adapted for a fictional typography exhibition.

EVENT POSTER

An event poster created in Illustrator for an exhibition of the works of delineator Hugh Ferriss, highlighting his book "The Metropolis of Tomorrow". Much of Ferriss's career was during the 1930s, with the Art Deco style of the time dominating his works, as well as his signature dark, spotlit, moody tones. This is reflected in the font choice and overall design of the poster with colors and linework. The event is held at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, an Art Deco building similar to his style and works.

NEUEHAUS

A Grunge-style typography poster focusing on the interaction and abstraction of letterforms with an image. The design focuses on low-contrast, limited color, and using type as more of a graphic element than informational reading. The word "Neuehaus" is a play on Bauhaus, replacing the first part with the German word for "New". The text was created in Illustrator while the image and effects were created in Photoshop.

FLIRTING WITH THE BULLY

A book cover designed with a given title created using Photoshop and Illustrator. This interpretation is a wartime story of a pilot who defects from a villanous faction. The cover depicts a silhouette of the pilot's plane and the overall design reflects the plane's wing with the aircraft insignias of the two main factions he was part of. The text and image effects were created in Photoshop while the central graphics were created in Illustrator.

GROUND LEVEL

A graphic illustrated poster or sign for a fictional cafe located in a large city, heavily influenced by Art Deco. The piece was created in Illustrator using photo references of randomly picked Art Deco skyscrapers. The city itself was inspired by various 1920s-1930s futuristic interpretations of cities, notably the title city from Fritz Lang's film, Metropolis.

A monochromatic graphic illustrated piece featuring a 1947 Buick from photo reference. The piece was originally created in pen and ink, then touched up with text added in Photoshop.

The focus of this project was type interacting with an object. I chose a 1930s car, with the word interacting with its various features. The piece was then adapted as a billboard for a vintage auto show.

A newspaper ad for the World of Wheels car show, using only black and white where possible, to create simple, high-visibility graphic shapes that would still be clear despite low-quality printing.

PUNK ART: STIFF LITTLE FINGERS

A poster using elements of Punk art advertising the Spotify debut of the band Stiff Little Fingers and their debut album, Inflammable Material. The cut-and-pasted ransom note look of the type was created manually, randomly selecting from installed fonts. The text used is lyrics from the song Suspect Device, the opening song on the album.

Technology company specializing in civil- or military-grade defense technology for federal or private clients. The text is a very bold and blocky sans-serif typeface to create a tough, robust feel, and the O is in the shape of a fort bastion.

Label design for a fictional soda line heavily influenced by 1950s Googie design. It uses various elements such as numerous bright colors, arrow-like abstract shapes, and an overall space-age theme. Shown on a glass bottle as well as a can.

Graphic frame animations in the style of old neon signs, heavily inspired by a visit to Las Vegas. The two designs are for possible casinos, the High Roller and Starlight.

GOOGLE DOODLE: SIR WILLIAM RAMSAY

A fictional Google Doodle created for a Nobel Prize winner. The illustration is done in the style of a neon sign, in refrence to Ramsay’s discovery of neon and the other noble gases. Each color is also close to the actual colors of the gases when electrified.

PACKAGE REDESIGN: HOTWHEELS

A redesign of Hotwheels packaging. It retains all graphic elements, but removes the plastic blister packaging, and instead uses a simple box, similar to older packaging. The specific car used is their 2012 original, Mad Manga.

An absctract piece designed to be used as a desktop background. Inspired by various Art Deco styled items like gates, it focuses on lines, geometric shapes, and symmetry.

An illustration using primarily type depicting the custom Ford Falcon "V8 Interceptor" from the Mad Max films. The type used is primarily from the opening narration in The Road Warrior.

An illustration that was mainly a challenge in smooth shading. The car was originally hand drawn and is based on various coke-bottle styled sports cars of the 1960s.
